The Wellington Crusader baseball team lost two close games at Clearwater Thursday.

 

Wellington led much of the first game, but lost 8-7, and out hit the opposition in the second game before falling 5-3.

 

In the first game, Wellington got four runs in the top of the second, and led 5-3 after four innings. Clearwater scored four in the sixth and held on for the win.

 

Austin Dunn led Wellington’s offense, going 3-for-4 at the plate and scoring twice. Connor Phelps, Trevor Nance,  and Jalen Macias,  had singles. Adam Condit had a triple.

 

In the second game, Clearwater got four runs in the bottom of the third, and that was enough for the 5-3 win. Wellington had seven hits, to five for Clearwater.

 

No one had more than one hit. Houston Sober had a two-rbi single, and Jaden Hines drove in a run with a hit.

 

Wellington is scheduled to play in Kansas City Saturday, with games against Kansas City Turner at 2 p.m., and Arkansas City at 4 p.m. The Crusaders return home next Tuesday, hosting Andover.
