Obituary: Blasi, Donald Thomas, 77

Blasi, Donald Thomas, Ph.D., 77, passed away Monday, June 2, 2014 from a sudden, life-threatening illness. 

He was born September 6, 1936, to Julius and Marie Blasi in Mount Hope, Kansas.  He married Eileen McManus in 1965 and the late Kelley Peterlein 2009. 

Family includes his daughter, Christina Weber of Wichita; son, the late Daman Blasi (1969-1997); sister, Judy Berkebile of Lincoln, NE; sister, Clodaugh Bourgault of Joplin, MO; sister, Eugenia Johnston of Wellington, KS; brother, Bill Blasi of Wellington, KS; son-in-law, Joseph Weber; and his three grandchildren Ian, Gianna, and Benjamin Weber of Wichita, who affectionately called him “Papa Don”. 

Don served active duty in the Navy, followed 20 years as a Navy Reservist.  Don practiced as a licensed psychologist for over 40 years.  He spearheaded numerous community projects such as the Save Our Cessna Stadium campaign, bringing the middle school system to Sedgwick County, and the Ark River Navigation project, and was a staunch WSU supporter. 

Don was a devout Catholic, and his funeral will be at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Wichita, Kansas on Thursday, June 5th at 10:30am.  Rosary will be on Wednesday, June 4th at 7:00 pm at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Special Olympics in memory of son Daman Blasi.
