  • Our local forecasters will be watching the skies today, continuing to see a chance for severe storm development in south central Kansas. The initial activity is expected to erupt in northeastern Kansas, and then back-build into our area sometime after 4 pm. Storms will have the potential to produce very large hail (up to 2 inches in diameter) and wind gusts up to 60 mph.  Heavy rainfall, bringing the threat of flooding, is also expected as storms continue on through the night.
While waiting for the rain to begin falling, prepare to deal with a little pre-July sweltering heat. Temperatures will hover in the lower 90s, which doesn’t sound that oppressive by itself. However, the moisture in the air will boost the heat indices up to a muggy 100-105 degrees.
