Nursing graduate Macy Anderson pinned in Senior Recognition Ceremony
EMPORIA -- Macy Anderson of Wellington was among 33 nursing graduates pinned during the Student Nurse Recognition Ceremony on May 16 at Emporia State University.
The ESU Newman Division of Nursing recently was ranked No. 14 of the Top 100 Nursing Programs in the United States by College Atlas.

The Student Services Department at Cowley College has awarded scholarships to the following students.
From Belle Plaine High School: Levi Turney, son of Brian and Lynette Turney, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Belle Plaine, he participated in football, baseball, SADD, Student Council, FCA, and Skills USA. He was a member of the Honor Roll and is undecided on a major.
From Conway Springs High School: Jenna Hilger, daughter of Joe and Jill Hilger, is the recipient of an ACES Scholarship. At Conway Springs, she was involved in FCCLA, tennis and Friendship Meals. She plans to major in Early Childhood Development.
Tristan Stuhlsatz, daughter of Dan and Lila Stuhlsatz, is the recipient of an Academic Civic Engagement through Service Scholarship. At Conway Springs, she was involved in FCCLA, Seniors for Seniors, Friendship Meals, and Creating and Achieving Relationships During School (CARDS). She was a member of the Principal?s Honor Roll and plans to major in social work.
From Oxford High School: Tyler Eckstein, son of Chad and Shirley Eckstein, is the recipient of a Journalism Scholarship. At Oxford, he was involved in basketball, baseball, and the Kansas Association of Youth. He was named Mr. Wildcat and was the school?s Homecoming King. He is undecided on a major.
Erica Smith, daughter of Dwayne and Mary Ann Smith, is the recipient of a Natural Science Department Scholarship. At Oxford, she participated in softball and the Flag Team. She was a member of the Principal’s and Counselor’s Honor Rolls and plans to major in nursing.
From South Haven High School: Clay White is the recipient of a Vocal Music Scholarship. He plans to major in pre-medicine.
From Wellington High School: Payton Baker, son of Paul Baker and Amy Norris, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Wellington, he was involved in basketball, baseball, FCA, and the National Honor Society. She was a Kansas Honor Scholar, Wichita State Presidential Scholar, and graduated in the top-10 percent of his class. He plans to major in accounting.
Parker Dougherty, son of Andy and Leslie Walker, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Wellington, he participated in baseball, basketball, and the National Honor Society. He was a member of the Honor Roll and graduated in the top-10 percent of his class. He plans to major in engineering.
Gracie Defore, daughter of Jeff and Karla Defore, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in cross country, softball, power lifting, FCA, Student Council, Leadership, the National Honor Society, and was the football team manager. She received the Junior Lions Award, was a KU Honor Scholar, Wichita State Presidential Scholar, class valedictorian, and graduated in the top-10 percent of her class. She plans to major in hotel and restaurant management.
Ashleigh Huck, daughter of Andrew and Tara Huck, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in BPLA, FFA, FCCLA, and softball. She was a member of the Superintendent’s Honor Roll and was named to the Student Spotlight of the Month. She plans to major in accounting.
Jaedyn Ledesma, daughter of Jay and Linda Ledesma, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in cross country, basketball, track and field, FCA, and BIGS in Schools. She received several awards in athletics and plans to major in elementary education.
Avery Lewellen, daughter of Brian and Kim Lewellen, is the recipient of a Boyer Trust Fund Scholarship. At Wellington, she was involved in Student Council, FCA, volleyball, basketball, Rotary Club, track, and the National Honor Society. She plans to major in elementary education.
Cowley releases President's, Dean's honor rolls for spring semester
The Registrar’s office at Cowley College has released the names of students who earned spots on the President’s and Dean’s honor rolls for the spring 2014 semester.
Students listed on the President’s Honor Roll earned 4.0 grade-point averages, on a 4.0 scale, and completed a minimum of 12 credit hours. Students listed on the Dean’s Honor Roll earned a GPA between 3.50-3.99 and completed a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Area Students Earn Academic Honors at Southwestern College
WINFIELD -- Top scholars at Southwestern College in Winfield and at Southwestern College Professional Studies have been announced with the release of the Dean's Honor Roll for the spring 2014 semester. Full-time students who earned grade point averages of at least 3.70 (4.0 equals an A) were eligible for the honor.

SEARCY, AR -- Erik Rasmussen of Conway Springs is one of more than 750 graduates who received a diploma at Harding University's commencement exercises May 10, 2014.
Rasmussen received a Doctor of Pharmacy degree.

MANHATTAN — More than 3,400 Kansas State University students have earned semester honors for their academic performance during the spring 2014 semester.
Students with at least 12 graded hours and whose grade point average for the semester is 3.75 or above receive semester honors. They also receive commendations from their deans and the honors recorded on their permanent academic records.

Local students selected to University of Minnesota Twin Cities Dean's List
MINNEAPOLIS / ST. PAUL - Joseph Carl of Conway Springs has been named to the 2014 spring semester Dean's List at the University of Minnesota Twin Cities, the university announced today.
To qualify for the Dean's List, a student must complete 12 or more letter-graded credits while attaining a 3.66 grade point average.
Spring 2014 College of Business, Entrepreneurship Honor Scholars named at FHSU
HAYS, Kan. -- Spring 2014 4.0 Honor Scholars have been announced for Fort Hays State University's College of Business and Entrepreneurship.
Only full-time, undergraduate business majors who have a 4.0 grade-point average for the semester are on the list of COBE Honor Scholars.
Caldwell: Justin Mayo, a 1994 Caparral High School, Anthony, graduate, is a junior majoring in management.
