Tip of the Week
Instead of a hefty investment in a full bathroom remodeling, some simple and affordable changes can make a noticeable difference. Here are some that can be done in a single weekend:
Enhance walls with color and pattern - Adding a color or design to just one wall in the bathroom can revive the space. Yellows and golds will warm it up, greens and blues are calming. Horizontal stripes will make the space look wider; vertical stripes elongate walls and give the illusion of a higher ceiling.
A mirrored statement - Framed mirrors are great, but they can be pricey. Check out garage sales, local flea markets and thrift stores to see if you can find a distinctive picture frame that could be transformed into a mirror. To make it really stand out, look for those with unconventional shapes, finishes or colors.
Dress shelves - Shelf liner can be both fun and functional for the bath. Non-adhesive shelf liners are available in an array of colors and prints to dress up shelving, countertops and racks.
Clean the closet
Closets and storage areas that are not completely full give the appearance of having more room. With storage space a priority for many home buyers, a half-filled closet can be a benefit to sellers.
Did You Know
The national average cost for a bathroom remodel is $10,142, according to the Cost Guide from HomeAdvisor.com.
Lighting in any room of the house is a great opportunity to inject flair and style into your space with ease. Switch out older ceiling lights with trendy lanterns or an inexpensive, vintage chandelier. For bathroom vanities, try sconces with unexpected shades or use tall tabletop lamps instead of wall-mounted styles.
Go early or go late
The best selection and freshest produce at farmer’s markets is available early in the day, so set your alarm if that is your primary shopping purpose. But the best prices are often found very late in the day, as many vendors prefers to discount prices rather than load the leftovers for the trip back home. If you’re a bargain hunter and not looking for a particular type of fruit or vegetable, a late-day visit may be for you.
