School can be expensive, especially when it comes to required supplies for students, new clothes and necessities for classrooms. For the past couple of years, the Kansas Star Casino has tried to ease that financial burden by offering reward cards.
"It helps out a ton with supplies, as they can be so costly, and it also helps out a lot with new clothes," said Sarina Shore, parent of a first grader.
The pre-loaded Visa cards are offered in amounts of $100 per student, and must be spent on clothing, shoes, supplies and school fees only. Teachers also benefit by receiving a card to be used toward classroom supplies, books, etc.
"The cards are wonderful," said Jayme Lowe, Washington Elementary kindergarten teacher. "They are extremely beneficial to help enhance the curriculum by purchasing books, supplies, prizes and decorations that would normally come out of pocket. The cards really help supplement that."
As long as receipts proving the card was spent toward its intended are turned in, students and teachers will be eligible to receive a card each year.
"The Kansas All-Star Scholars Fund is a great way to make a significant impact on the community," said Richard Klemp, Director of Government Relations for Kansas Star Casino. "We are pleased to be able to help students, parents and teachers with the cost of education."
