The Arkansas City High School (ACHS) Lady Bulldogs kept it close through one quarter, but that's about it. Wellington's Lady Crusader team sent Ark City to the losers bracket with a 53-26 win in the opening round of the Mulvane Wildcat Classic basketball tournament.

Wellington jumped out to an early 4-0 lead to start the game, but the Lady Bulldogs pulled to within one point, 9-8,  before the second quarter. That's about the time the Lady Crusaders made it rain from beyond the arch.

The game quickly got out of hand for ACHS, as the score board read 27-14 at halftime. Behind a daunting defensive effort, Wellington held the Lady Bulldogs to just two points in the third period. It was 42-16 as the final quarter started.

Nothing much would change in that final quarter, each team scored a few more buckets to make the final tally come to 53-26. The Lady Crusaders will play in second round action tomorrow at 5:45 p.m. at Mulvane against Wichita Southeast High School. A win Thursday would land Wellington in the championship on Saturday.
