HAYS —  A 14-4 run late in the first half gave Argonia a 41-30 halftime lead, and the Lady Raiders cruised to an 81-50 win over Lincoln in Wednesday's quarterfinal round of the Class 1A State Tournament in Hays.
Argonia improved to 26-0 on the season and the Lady Raiders will face St. Paul (25-0), a ??-?? winner over Tribune-Greeley County Wednesday night.
With 4:05 left in the second quarter, Lincoln's Alexandria Baietto scored on a putback to get her team within one point, but Argonia responded with four quick points to start their pivotal run.
Brooke Boatright drew a foul and made both ends of the one-and-one just five seconds later, and Ashton Stansbury's steal and layup made it 31-26 with 3:47 to go in the half.
Davi Peetom, Allie Brewster and Morgan Tracy all scored during the run, which put Argonia in front 41-30 at half.
"Our kids played hard defensively and because of the way we played defense at that particular time it created some offensive opportunities for us," Argonia coach Dixie Brewster said of the second quarter run. "We were able to shoot the ball pretty well."
After Lincoln freshman Jenna Farris, who led all scorers with 28 points, scored to open the third quarter, Argonia ran off seven straight points as part of a 14-3 run.
When Stansbury made a putback with 2:47 left in the third, the Lady Raiders had a 55-35 lead, which was more than enough for Argonia down the stretch.
The Lady Raiders had a 50-31 rebounding advantage and they scored 20 second chance points off 24 offensive rebounds.
"We knew that rebounding was one of their strong points," Brewster said. "We worked on our rebounding drill so hard in practice the other day that one of our players got hurt. She was able to play tonight but I think she's a little sore."
The Lady Raiders got 17 points, 13 rebounds and four steals from Stansbury. Allie Brewster also had a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds. She also finished with five steals and three assists.
Brooke Boatright added 16 points, five rebounds, two assists and two steals, while Davi Peetom scored 17 points on six-for-nine shooting.
