Keeping up with the Jones: Losing to win

It’s hard to imagine that a year ago (give or take a few weeks) I was hearing about the www.wellington.cc weight loss contest for the first time. Naturally, I penciled myself in as the favorite. I was able to raise a bit of money for the website’s scholarship fund on my way to losing about 25ish pounds. But that wasn’t enough for “the favorite” to win, and eventually I got back into all my favorite foods.
It’s hard to pinpoint exactly when I fell off the proverbial wagon, perhaps the wagon could no longer support my weight and I busted straight through the bottom. Maybe they just don’t make wagons like they used to (Yes?). No, it’s excuses like that, which will allow for the old habits to creep back up. 5. Casino afterthought. It's been about 10 years since someone proposed building a casino near Wellington. And the issue is still far from being resolved. Have we learned anything? Yes, we are more mistrustful of those in charge, and there's the bitterness thing. But I'd also like to think that Wellington being a player throughout the process, says a lot for our leadership in this town. Mulvane people can pat themselves on the backs, but they landed the facility on blind luck and the hard work of Wellington leadership...[For the complete column, see pg. 6 of the Thursday, Jan 18 edition of the Wellington News].
