Christian Howell, a senior from South Haven High School, signed with Bethel College to play football.
Howell is one of 10 football players, who has signed up for the Threshers located in North Newton, Kans. The 6-0, 190 pounder is slated to play linebacker for the NAIA school.
Howell was an integral force for the Cardinal football program in the four years he participated.
Throughout his career, Howell was a diversified player playing linebacker, defensive end, nose tackle, tight end, fullback, tailback and guard. He was a three year starter.
During his senior year, he played primarily fullback and tight end on offense. He gained 374 yards and had seven touchdowns in 2009. He also caught 14 balls for 221 yards and two touchdowns.
Defensively he had 83 tackles, and 10 tackles for losses as a linebacker.
His accolades were numerous especially his senior year. The Cardinal was a three time All South-Central Border League selection, including first team offense and defense his senior year. He was also selected to VYPE Magazine's eight-man top 8 team in 2009.
Sources said he got the attention of Bethel by attending their two-day football camp where he won the all around punt, pass and kick competition.
A signing ceremony was held at South Haven where Bethel College coaches Zach Towns and Garrett Whorton were in attendance. Also, South Haven head coach David Hughes and assistant coach Devin Gressel were there.
