The Wellington High School football team had conditioning tests Saturday, the first practice on Monday. Here are some observations we have made by the numbers.
63 — Number of WHS players out for football at WHS — sophomores through seniors who checked out equipment.
17 — The increase number of players out for football over the same time last year.
95 — The temperature by the time the players got done with conditioning drills Saturday afternoon.
20 — The degree drop in temperature from Saturday to Monday thanks to a storm front that came through during the weekend.
15 — The number of years Linn Hibbs has been a coach for the Wellington Crusaders.
26 — The number of 55-yard sprints if players made the 90 percent of PSQ workouts during the summer.
32 — Number of 55-yard sprints Wellington football players had to run Saturday if they didn’t make 90 percent of the PSQs during the summer. That equals a mile.
5 — The number used by Wellington head coach Linn Hibbs when he describes the “five-second” athlete. Hibbs said PSQ conditioning drills are simulated like a game situation. For example, Saturday’s sprints are run every minute much like a play is run in a game.
2 — As of Tuesday, the number of days before the Wellington players (and everyone else for that matter) get in pads.
17 — Number of days before Wellington opens its season against Andale at Sellers Park.
7 — The average amount of seconds per play.
14 — The average number of minutes football is actually played in a game.
119 — The average number of plays in a high school football game.
