Voter affiliation
Traditionally in a primary election, those registered for the Democratic Party vote a Democratic ballot, and Republicans vote a Republican ballot. For unaffiliated voters, the process is a bit more complex.
According to the Sumner County Election Office the Republican Party has a closed  primary, so in order for unaffiliated voters to vote Republican, they must affiliate with  that party.
However, the Democrats have an open primary, so unaffiliated voters can maintain their independent status without having to join the Democratic side.

Voting guidelines
Sumner County’s website, www.co.sumner.ks.us lists some voter tips that would be good to review before Tuesday. To see them, put the curser on County Clerk and Election Officer tab on the left side of the page. On the drop down list that appears, click on Voter/Election Information. The Kansas Secretary of State website also has more information- www.kssos.org.
