WELLINGTON — The American Cancer Society is seeking teams for the 2008 Relay For Life of Sumner County. Relay For Life is the American Cancer Society’s national signature fundraising activity.
Teams of eight to 15 members gather with tents and sleeping bags to participate in the largest fundraising walk in the nation.
Relay For Life unites friends, families, businesses, hospitals, schools and churches — people from all walks of life.
Teams seek sponsorship prior to the Relay, all with the goal of supporting a cure for cancer.
Relay For Life teams are encouraged to sign up early for the 2008 Relay For Life of Sumner County to take place on June 13-14, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. at Wellington Middle School.
Relay For Life is a fun-filled, overnight event that mobilizes communities throughout the country to celebrate survivors, remember loves ones and raise money for the fight against cancer.
“The event raises awareness about the progress against cancer while also raising funds to fight the disease,” said Traci Soles, Team Captain Coordinator. “Individuals who are willing to give their time and energy to this exciting community event, as a volunteer or as a participant, have made a commitment to fight back against cancer.”
So far, eight teams have registered and the committee is hoping to get 15 signed up to beat last year's total of 11 teams participating in the annual event.
The following team captains have dedicated their time to form teams for this event: Anna Reynolds, Channity Farley, Amber Hunt, Billy Soles, Paula Diver, Meghan Gilkey, Amanda Havner, and Tunie Sparman.
Each participant who raises $100 will receive a 2008 Relay For Life t-shirt.
If you are interested in becoming a team captain, or would like to be a participant on a team, contact Traci Soles at 620-326-6347.
"Help us support Sumner County Relay For life. We all can make a difference for the fight against cancer," she said.
