Digging into your roots contest

Do you have Sumner County Roots?  Do you live in Sumner County now?

If you do, then this summer contest is just for you!

There are three different categories: ages 12 and under, ages 13 through 17, and 18 years old and up. 

Each category will have a first prize of $25, and a second prize of $15.

The Rules:

Step 1: Go to the Sumner County Historical and Genealogical Center at 208 N. Washington in Wellington, (the far north door) and find a family name or Sumner County town (past or present) that interests you.  It can even be a specific resource in the Center that strikes your interest.

Step 2: Do the Research.  During the Wheat Festival the SCHGS Center will be open on Thursday (July 8) from 5 pm until 8 pm, and on Friday (July 9) from 9 am until noon, and from 6 pm until 9 pm.  The Center is open every Tuesday from 10-12 and 1-4 as well as other days by appointment.  For other days, please contact clark1963@sucocoopwb.com or call 620-455-3608.

Step 3: Plan a way to tell someone else what you found, and send a copy to the judges at the address below. 

Suggestions:  write a letter, a descriptive story, a PowerPoint, video, or a children's book, etc. 

Be creative!   Have fun! 

Deadline for entries will be 4:00 p.m. on August 10. 

Entries may be delivered to the SCHGS Center at 208 N. Washington, Wellington, KS 67152, mailed to SCHGS Contest c/o Elaine Clark, 217 N. Oliver Rd., Wellington, KS 67152, or emailed to clark1963@sucocoopwb.com.
