It's time to dust off those old gym shoes, and squeeze into that old high school jersey. The 110th Wheat Festival is host to first Wellington High School Alumni Basketball game. Amy (Nance) McDaniel, class of 1996 is organizing the event.
"You can be an alumni of Wellington High School to play," McDaniel said. "There will be two teams. One team is the odd years of graduation, the other will be even years of graduation." The ladies game will take place at 2 p.m., Sunday, July 11th and the men's game will immediately follow. The quarters will be 5 to 8 minutes in length with a running clock.
"It's a sub in sub out kind of thing so if you make it up and down the court one time and need to set you can come on out," McDaniel explained. Everyone from the class of 2010 on back is welcomed to play. Pre registration is required, see the Chamber of Commerce from more details. The games will be held at the Wellington High School gym.
Registration is 12 dollars and that includes a t-shirt. Entry forms can be found on the Chamber's website and www.wellington.cc. McDaniel said Wheat Festival is an event that brings people from Wellington together again.
"They always have class reunions around Wheat Festival and everybody comes back," she said. "From that everybody wanted to get together and stay in touch..."
