Wellington, Kan. -

The Annual Ride for the Red to benefit the American Red Cross takes riders through Wellington, Harper, Kingman and back to Wichita.
The fourth annual Ride for the Red Poker Run on Saturday, June 28 gives riders a relaxing 100 mile ride through Wellington, Harper and Kingman — four of the five counties the Midway-Kansas Chapter of the Red Cross serves and is the only special event the local chapter organizes to help fund local programs.
Don’t ride a motorcycle?  There are still ways to help!  Come on Saturday for breakfast at 1900 E. Douglas for an all-you-can-eat pancake and sausage breakfast. You can also purchase opportunities to win a Suzuki motorcycle courtesy of Mid America Powersports. Tickets for the motorcycle are $10 and can be purchased at the chapter or on the Website.
Anyone interested in helping the Red Cross can pre register for $20, in person at 1900 E. Douglas in Wichita, from 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. or securely online at www.WichitaRideForTheRed.org.  Registration will also be accepted the day of the event, and will cost $25.
Riders check in at 8 a.m. to get their cards and eat breakfast and hit the road by 10 a.m.   Riders who are back by 2 p.m. are eligible for the grand prize — a trip for two to Las Vegas (hotel and airfare included).
“Last year we had over 260 bikers and raised over $35,000 for chapter programs and services like disaster relief for victims of house fires and rides for the elderly to doctor appointments,” said Sue Pearce, co-chair of the event.
“We are looking forward to having even more riders this year,” Pearce said.
The money raised during the Ride for the Red will stay local with the Midway-Kansas Chapter which serves Sedgwick, Sumner, Harper, Harvey and Kingman counties providing services such as helping victims of house fires, keeping military families connected, taking the elderly to doctor appointments and teaching lifesaving classes.
Bring your friends and your appetite and be a part of supporting the Red Cross and the nearly 84,000 families we help each year.
