Ruth Wakefield, owner of the Toll House Inn in the 1930s, probably had no idea what a tremendous impact her cookies would have on American cuisine. It has been more than 75 years since Wakefield baked that first batch of chocolate chip cookies, and this favorite has never lost its popularity among cookie lovers.
