Dear America,
I have come to see you today
I did not bring you flowers
I did not bring you a card
I have brought you my feelings
My fears and my prayers.
You have suffered an ugly wound, some of your people have been terribly hurt. Many have been lost. My heart goes out to you and those heroes who unexpectedly gave their lives
In a small way, I know what you are going through. I have seen this type of horror in a far away land called Vietnam. I can tell you to be strong and I know you will prevail. You are one nation under God indivisible.
I will not ask what you can do for me, but what I can do for you. You have given us 200 years of freedom. We will not let you down, I promise you. You will heal with the help of ordinary people, faced with extra ordinary circumstances.
My fears are now that we should realize there is a clear and present danger in our world. We should not enter war lightly. We should have a clear precise objective.
We should go in with the best intentions and come back with nothing less than the best results. We must not fight a limited war for limited objectives or all shall be in vain. I can give you 62,022 reasons why this should be done. Their names are on a wall in Washington D.C.
I want to assure you that I would give my life in your defense as would others I am sure. I would say to you now it has been a horrible thing which happened to you. I do not expect we will, as long as we live, forget this horrific act of terror. We must take from this act and learn. Try to turn the negative into a positive, not losing sight of the past but not to dwell in it.
In time, perhaps things will get better. This is my prayer for you. My America the Beautiful.
-Jim Valentine.
