A tremendous thank you to Sherry and Perry Wiley! Their cleanup project was an excellent idea to help citizens of Wellington rid their property of unwanted trash. The City of Wellington and the Chamber of Commerce are offering incentives to encourage people to buy or build homes in Wellington. The business owners downtown are working to keep their store fronts attractive. Many independent organizations have their beautification projects. Linda Stewart has worked on the landscape beds downtown and other projects. There have been new businesses opening showing their confidence that Wellington is a good investment.
Driving around Wellington, I am struck by how neighborhoods look compared to when I first moved to Wellington in 1965. I know economic times are tough, but city and county leaders continue to work hard to attract new businesses and families to the community. How a town looks is a very important consideration. Too many yards are in need of a mower and weed eater. Even when they mow, homes have cars being worked on, trailers or boats in their front yards where the weeds are growing up, under and around.
Our streets have grass and weeds growing over the asphalt enough that some look unkempt. Where the asphalt and concrete curbing meet are weeds that need attention. Our Street Department is extremely busy working on our streets to repair potholes, etc. People need to be proactive and take care of the weeds themselves. It is a matter of pride in our community’s appearance.
Wellington has a lot of thoughtful, friendly, community oriented individuals. Let’s let the appearance of the town reflect that feeling!
