At approximately 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 2, the Wellington Police Department was contacted by the Ponca City, Okla., Police Department regarding a Social Media message talking about a possible school threat.

According to a release issued by Wellington Police Department Chief, Tracy Heath, the subsequent investigated, an 18-year-old Wellington male was located and taken into police custody and is currently in Sumner County Jail. He was arrested for criminal threat.

“We were referenced the Social Media message,” Heath said. “Subsequently we took action. Certainly, as law enforcement, we are going to consider it as a threat and will investigate accordingly. It’s not up to us to decide or not if someone was just simply having a bad day or what. Anytime you make that type of decision, there’s consequences.”

USD 353 officials were notified of the investigation and arrest and issued a statement via Crusader Alerts text messaging system.
