Bobbie Meeker, 90, of Wellington, Kansas, died Tuesday, December 5, 2017 at Via Christi-St. Francis in Wichita.
Bobbie was born the son of Glenn and Myrtle (Bridges) Meeker on Friday, July 1, 1927 in South Haven. After Myrtle's passing, Bobbie's father married Mildred Scott and the couple raised their young family in South Haven. Following his graduation from South Haven High School, Bobbie joined the United States Navy where he served until the end of WWII. Bobbie was honorably discharged and began working on the Miller Family Farm. On June 5, 1949, Bobbie and Fern Miller were united in marriage in South Haven. Bobbie and Fern later purchased their own farm where they raised their family. While still farming, Bobbie spent over 35 years as a Dekalb Seed Dealer and also worked as an aircraft machinist in Wichita and Wellington. Together, Bobbie and Fern celebrated 66 years of marriage before her passing in 2015.
Survivors include his children: Mary Beth McDonald of Little Rock, Arkansas; Steven Meeker and his wife Mary of Wellington, and Ross Meeker and his wife Dana of Wellington. He is survived by grandchildren: Michael McDonald and his wife Tara, Rebekah Pope and her husband David; James McDonald and his wife Renee; John David McDonald; Michael Meeker and his wife Melissa Ann Meeker; Hollie Gulick and her husband Clint; Megan Cook and her husband Robin; Craig Meeker and his wife Melissa and great-grandchildren: Ashton, Elizabeth and Chloe McDonald, Elizabeth, David Jr. and Dennis Pope, Kalyn McDonald, Sydney and Kynsley Meeker, Heidi, Haley and Georgia Gulick, Payton, Claire and Harper Ginter, Ella and Nicolas Cook, Laney, Allie and Grant Meeker. He is also survived by his sister, Bonnie Fair and her husband Richard of Arkansas City. Bobbie was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Don Meeker; brother, Charles Meeker and his beloved wife, Fern Meeker.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, December 10, 2017 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
Funeral services for Bobbie will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 11, 2017 in the First United Methodist Church, Wellington.
Interment with Military Honors will follow at Osborne Cemetery in Mayfield.
A memorial fund has been established in his loving memory to the First United Methodist Church or the American Diabetes Association. Contributions may be mailed or left with the funeral home.
