Leta Faye Clewell, 80, passed peacefully Sat., Jan. 13.  Leta was born Feb. 19, 1937 in Cestos, Dewey County, OK; the youngest of three children born to James “Jim” Albert and Ruth Elizabeth (Derrick) Donley.
Leta grew up in rural Oklahoma. After the death of her father she moved with her mother to Wellington during her high school years.  She was a 1954 graduate of Wellington High School.  It was in Wellington that Leta met and married John Junior Clewell, son of John Thomas and Bessie (Cryder) Clewell of Belle Plaine, KS. They were married Dec. 22, 1954 in Newkirk, OK.  Leta and John celebrated 57 years of marriage, before John passed away May 28, 2012.
During the early years of their marriage Leta worked at the Pine Lodge Café and Country Acres Café. She began working as a tool grinder at Plessey-Welco Aerospace in 1973, retiring in 1999 after 26 years.
Leta was the proud mother of three sons: Larry Joe of Arvada, CO; Robert "Bob" Lynn (Nancy) of Olathe, KS; and Ronald "Ron" Wayne (Krisan) of Raymore, MO. Grandma Leta loved to brag about her beautiful grandchildren: Christopher John and Ethan Thomas of Denver, CO; Matthew John and Scott Daniel of Olathe, KS; and Kathryn "Katie" Elizabeth of Raymore, MO.
Leta will be missed dearly by her extended family, her many friends, her Hillside Baptist Church family, and close family friends Bert and Kathy Neff and Bobby and Dana Russell.
Leta was preceded in death by her husband, parents, sister Anna Mae Ables and brother, Elbert Edward, who died in infancy.
Funeral Services will be held Thursday, January 18th at 10:30 a.m. at Hillside Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday Jan. 17th at Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. with family present from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Burial will be in Sumner Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wellington. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hillside Baptist Church designated for Falls Creek Youth Scholarship Fund. Contributions can be left with the funeral home.
