Sumner Regional Medical Center CEO Les Dean will report at the March hospital board meeting that "the future is indeed bright in Wellington! The path we are now moving down will see a new, state of the art hospital under construction in 2018 with the project expected to be completed in 2019. All of the current services available at Sumner Regional will continue to be supported, with strong emphasis on specialty medicine and related services. 24/7 emergency care will continue to be offered from a new ER that will focus on triaging patients quickly and appropriately to deliver the best possible level of care. Support services – such as radiology/imaging, laboratory, physical & occupational therapy to name a few, will continue to be supported and to grow.
All of this addresses the ongoing needs of our business partners, and the citizens in our community by providing a vital foundation for continued growth and forward progress in Wellington. With the arrival of Cowley County College Sumner Campus, we are poised for new opportunities not seen before in our city's history.
All of us here at Sumner Regional Medical Center are excited and ready to move ahead with what is definitely NOT “business as usual”. In a climate where rural hospital closures abound, and the future of health care is far from certain in many communities across the U.S., Wellington is now assured that our needs will be met for many years to come. It is our distinct honor and pleasure to be a part of this landmark moment in our cities future! We are proud to be given the opportunity to continue serving this community by providing State Of The Art Medicine, with the Art Of Caring."
This news comes after last Tuesday's announcement that RHG would become the new owner of Sumner Regional Medical Center, a remarkable turnaround for the fate of the hospital. More information to follow...
