Jackie L. Burden, of Wellington, 88, passed on Friday, March 30, at his daughter's home. Jack was born the son of Joe Frank and Beulah Mae (Robertson) Burden on Monday, December 9, 1929 in Muncie, Indiana. As a young man, Jack joined the US Navy and was able to sail across the world. He was proud of his service and his country. He eventually became a recruiter and later retired from the military. It was while recruiting at the Kansas State Fair that he met a young lady named Joyce Withrow. On May 1, 1963, Jack and Joyce were united in marriage in Wellington. Together they celebrated 54 years of marriage. Following his retirement, he went to work at Wellington Junior High School as a custodian and retired again after many years of service. Jack was devoted to his country and family. He will be deeply missed. Survivors include his wife, Joyce Burden of Wellington; son, David Burden and his wife Claudia of Wellington; daughter, Katherine Cundiff of Wellington; son, Jackie L. Burden II of Wellington; daughter, Joyce Horsch and her husband Richard of El Dorado; son, JoNathan Burden and his wife Gwen of Goddard; daughter, Jeanette Rebold and her husband Troy of Wellington; grandchildren: Jeff Holmes of Wellington, Christopher Burden and his wife Conita of Wellington, Tytus L. Cornejo and his wife April of Wellington; Justin Cornejo and his wife Celeste of Wichita, Jocelyn Cornejo of Wichita, Morgan Pralle and her husband Darcy of Hiawatha, Maverick Horsch and his wife Branda of El Dorado, Correy Burden of Woodward, Oklahoma, Jordan Burden of Goddard, Cameron Burden of Goddard, Elijah Rebold of Wellington, Esther Rebold of Wellington, Ezekiel Jack Rebold of Wellington, Kansas and Elizabeth Rebold of Wellington, great-grandchildren: Heather Miller and her husband Myles, Hunter Holmes, Brendan Oswald, Dylan Burden, Christian Burden, Travis Burden, Annabelle and Emmalee Burden, Maizy, Ralphie, Sophie, Benny and Rosie Cornejo, Julian, Allarynn, Addalynn, Annalynn, Antonio Cornejo, Marissa Bebermeyer, Jixi, Jax, JoyAnne and Jared Cornejo and one great-great-granddaughter, Raynee Miller.  He was preceded in death by his parents, five brothers: Chester, Joe Bill, Delbert, Kenneth Eugene and Bobby Gene Burden and a son-in-law, Ralph E. Cornejo. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 with the family present from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Funeral services for Jack will be held at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at Wellington Freewill Baptist Church, Wellington. Interment will follow at Sumner Memorial Gardens, Wellington. In lieu of flowers please consider making a contribution to First Assembly of God, Wellington, or the Wellington Humane Society.
