The Augusta softball team remains undefeated after a home sweep on Monday. The Orioles took down Wellington 2-1 and 13-2 to improve to 8-0 on the season. The Orioles survived a low-scoring game one in extra innings, as Kourtney Divine hit a walk-off single with the bases loaded and the game tied at one in the bottom of the eighth inning. Gracie Johnston added to her phenomenal start to the 2018 season with a 17-strikeout game. Johnston started the game off by striking out the first 11 crusaders she faced. Augusta’s Jadyn Jackson led the Orioles at the plate, going three-for-three. Jackson also scored the game-winning run.
The Orioles offense finally got hot in game two, scoring 13 runs to win in five innings. Sophie Johnston drove in three of those runs with a home run. Morgan Pennycuff dealt eight strikeouts in five innings in the Orioles run-rule victory.
Augusta will look to remain undefeated as they travel to Rose Hill to take on the Rockets on Thursday, April 12.
