Jerry E. Wilson, 87, of Wellington, passed away Saturday, May 11th at the Brookdale Senior Living Center in Wellington.

Jerry Eugene Wilson was born on September 28, 1930 the son of Eldon and Ethel Marie (Harris) Wilson in Wellington, Kansas. Jerry was a 1948 graduate of Wellington High School. He entered the US Navy after high school during the Korean conflict. Jerry later graduated from El Dorado Community College and received his master’s in education from Wichita State University. Jerry taught in Edna, Ks for two years and Harper for one and later in Whitewater before becoming an insurance adjuster. He later taught and coached in Caldwell before returning to his hometown of Wellington in 1973 where he worked until his retirement. Even after retirement Jerry coached youth in Caldwell, Oxford, and South Haven. Jerry was a member of the V.F.W. and the First Christian Church in Wellington.

Survivors include his son, Steve Wilson of Mayfield, daughters; Kelly Shoffner and husband Jeff of Wichita, and Jan Wencel and husband Rob of Caldwell, as well as 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren and close friends John and Jeannie Gifford of Wellington.

Preceding him in death are his parents and sister, Jean Reese and brothers Johnny and Jimmy Wilson and daughter-in-law, Tanya Wilson.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 16, 2018, at the Memorial Auditorium in Wellington. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Shelley Family Funeral Home in Wellington.
