Bridge painting project on I-35/KTA to begin August 6
A project to paint eight bridges crossing the Kansas Turnpike in Sedgwick and Sumner Counties began Monday, August 6th, and will be completed in mid-October, weather permitting. This routine maintenance project helps preserve and lengthen the life of the bridges.
The bridges are located between mile markers 20 and 60 on I-35/KTA, approximately between the Wellington toll plaza and the Towanda Service Area. The contractor will begin work on the bridge at mile marker 20.172 (E. 20th Ave. N.) and will progress north working on bridges at these mile markers: 26.492 (E. 80th Ave. N.); 28.507 (E. 100th Ave. N.); 29.524 (E. 110th Ave. N.); 35.405 (E. 103rdSt. S.); 38.414 (E. 79th St. S.); 59.247 (SW Tumbleweed Road); and 59.997 (57th Terrace).
Drivers can expect single lane closures and reduced speeds of 65 mph throughout the project. They are encouraged to follow directions on posted signs and to use caution within the work zone.
