Sidney Shields, 91, died on Sept. 28, 2018 in Broken Arrow, Oklahoma
Sid was born on March 20, 1927. to Malinda (Schultz) Shields &  husband Sidney Shields in Wellington.
His parents raised him on a farm with his 3 sisters & 4 brothers. Sid played the French horn in high school and was a charmer, he liked to dance. He graduated from Wellington, attended college in Hays.
During that time he met the love of his life, Evelyn Brewer, who worked at the phone company with his sister Georgia. On July 16 th , 2018, Sid & Eve celebrated their 68th wedding anniversary.
Sid served 2 tours of duty in the late 1940s’ and early 1950s’
Sid worked for the Wellington Post Office for over 20 years, and then became an announcer and salesperson for the KLEY radio station in Wellington. After moving from Wellington, Sid & Eve worked six years for the Menninger Clinic in Topeka, Ks and then retired to Arkansas City, Ks. At 70 years old, he continued to work various jobs in Ark City, worked for DHS, but his greatest joy was a busy schedule substitute teaching. He loved being recognized by his students. Sid had always hoped to be a history teacher, and was fascinated with the Civil War and His great-grandfather James Horn.
Dad loved listening to classical music, and shared it with his children & grand-children. He also made beautiful stone jewelry, did wood carving, and historical research.
Sid and Eve moved to Broken Arrow, Ok in 2011 to be closer to the extended family and have better medical care. We will always feel blessed that mom and dad were only 5 blocks away.
Sidney was preceded in death by his mother & father, Aunt Zelma Schultz, sister Georgia Myers, brother in law Dale Meyers, and sister in law Ruby Shields.
Sid is survived by his wife, Evelyn Shields (of the home) his 3 children: Steve Shields & wife Norma (Dallas), Teresa Rader Talley & Chris (Broken Arrow, Ok) and Marc Shields of Arkansas City,  Always a loving grandfather, and is survived by 7 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren, and 2 great-great grandchildren & numerous nieces and nephews
Sid is also survived by his sisters: Dorothy Podschun & Rose Marie Smith, brothers: Russell (Buster) Shields, Max Shields, Kenneth Shields, and Bob Shields.
We his children, grand-children are blessed to have daddy in our lives for 91 years.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Wellington, on Saturday, Oct 13, 2018 from 2-5 p.m. at the Travelodge by Wyndam meeting room. Address is 1177 E. 16th St
