The east and west gates leading to Woods Park in Wellington were closed this morning due to Slate Creek being out of its banks. As of 8:45 this morning, it was at a height of 20.85 feet. Standing near the east gate, one could see the water at the spillway splashing into the air.
According to the National Weather Service office in Wichita, Sumner County has received upwards of five inches of rain over the past 72 hours, with some potentially higher amounts across the southern half of the county.
The rain is forecast to end later this evening, but flooding will still be a problem over the next several days.
