Lynn D. FitzSimmons, 73, passed on Thursday, October 11, at Westview Manor in Derby. Lynn was born the son of Vernon and Carrie (Poland) FitzSimmons on Tuesday, May 29, 1945 in Pratt. He was raised on the family farm in Cunningham. Lynn farmed for many years and continued to farm after selling his land. Outside of the farm, Lynn was the Director of Vocational Education for USD 619 in Wellington. On May 24, 1992, Lynn and Jan Kay (Querry) Mackender were united in marriage at the First United Methodist Church in Wellington. Together they celebrated 26 years of marriage. Survivors include his wife Jan FitzSimmons of Wichita; daughter, Barbara Glenn and her husband Scott of Edmond, Oklahoma; daughter, Leann McNerny of Cunningham; son, Dennis FitzSimmons and his fiance Kristi Shaffer of Pratt; step-son, Scott Mackender and his wife Ajelet of Houston, Texas; step-daughter, Shanda Pierce and her husband Alan of Wichita; 18 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; sister, Melva Taylor and her husband Meril of Bullard, Texas; sister, Caren Mix of Pratt, Kansas; mother-in-law, Shirley Querry of Kansas City, Missouri; brother-in-law, Ron Querry and his wife Karen of Omaha, Arkansas; sister-in-law, Twyla Browning of Kansas City, Missouri, along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents and nephews: Brian and Brad Shaffer. Visitation will be held at the funeral home from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m., Sunday, October 14, 2018 with the family present from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Funeral services for Lynn will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, October 15, 2018 at the Wellington Church of the Nazarene. Interment will follow later that day in the Cairo Cemetery, Pratt. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given in his name to the Wellington Church of the Nazarene (for Child Camp Sponsorship) or the Pratt County 4H Foundation.
