Dr. Robert G.Valentine 67, passed away suddenly on August 28. Dr. Bob, or “Val” to those who knew and loved him, will be very missed.
Dr. Bob was the son of Darrell and Lee Rose Valentine of Wellington. As a young buccaneer, he enjoyed time with his horse Blaze and excelling in track and field.
After graduating Wellington High School in 1969, he attended the University of Kansas for his undergraduate degree. After graduating he went to Colorado where he was a camp counselor. He then returned to the University of Kansas to achieve his medical degree in emergency medicine. After graduating he married Dr. Melissa Trekell and the two welcomed their first child, daughter Erin in 1979. Their second daughter, Ashley arrived in 1981. In 1986 the family relocated to Maryville, TN, where Dr. Bob was emergency room doctor at Blount Memorial Hospital, as well as an active member of Knoxville, TN Rescue Squad and Maryville, TN Rural Metro.
He lived in Atlanta, GA for several years, where he also worked as an emergency room doctor before settling in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. He worked at the Outer Banks Hospital until he finally retired.
He had a passion for horses, kite boarding and anything outdoors. He loved both the mountains and the ocean. He was also an amazing teacher. He loved his family and friends very much.
He is preceded in death by his daughter Erin Olivia Valentine, parents Darrell and Lee Rose and his grandparents.
He is survived by his daughter Ashley Valentine and her husband John, Dr. Melissa Trekell, brothers Jim Valentine, Wayne Valentine and his twin John Valentine, and Barbra Kelley and many nieces, nephews and friends.
There will be a celebration of life on November 4, 2018 at the American Legion in Wellington, from 2:00 p.m.- 4:00 p.m.
