The Cowley College Collegiate Quiz Bowl (CQB) teams took part in its first competition of the 2018-19 school year when they participated in the Fall Invitational held Saturday at Neosho Community College in Chanute, KS.

The Cowley teams got off to a strong start. As a whole, Cowley’s two teams combined to win eight rounds and lost only two while competing against teams from Neosho County Community College, Fort Scott Community College, Coffeyville Community College, and Allen Community College.

Cowley “A” remained undefeated 5-0, and included captain Jesse McCabe, Kamden Fuqua, Matthew Sinnett, and Connor Lancaster.

Cowley “B” had three wins and two losses with captain Alysha Zerener, Alyssa Marie Nellis, Jacob Michaelis, and Philip Howe.

Dianne Flickinger serves as the coach of the Cowley Collegiate Quiz Bowl teams.

“Both the Cowley A and Cowley B team are well-rounded this year with a good spread of knowledge among each team,” Flickinger said. “Everyone on both teams contributed to answering both toss-ups and bonus questions. Students had a great time competing and did well for their first competition of the 2018-19 year.”

The next competition for Collegiate Quiz Bowl is the Snow Bowl on December 1. Cowley College will host the Snow Bowl in the Webb-Brown Academic Center from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Observers are welcome to watch. Several CQB alumni and Cowley College faculty are planning to participate as moderators and scorekeepers. Nine to 11 teams from across the state will come to compete.
