The folks at Wellington's own Sumner Regional Medical Center have good reason to hold their heads high.
Cleverly and Associates has recognized the hospital as a Community Value Provider.
The Ohio-based firm held hospitals up to the Community Value Index, which measures a hospitals value in a community. The four key performance areas are financial viability and plant reinvestment, hospital cost structure, hospital charge structure and hospital quality performance. SRMC was one of just six Kansas hospitals that scored high enough on the CVI to be put in Cleverly and Associates new publication "State of the Hospital Industry- 2010 Edition."
Robert Bean, President and CEO of Sumner Regional Medical Center says the news was a very pleasant and rewarding surprise.
“We are very pleased to be one of only six hospitals out of 125 in the state of Kansas to be recognized as a Community Value Five-Star hospital,” Bean said in a press release.
In a phone interview Wednesday he said the hospital has worked hard in those key performance areas. Areas the industry as a whole is being measured by.
“The topic of hospital value is increasingly being discussed" James Cleverly said in a press release. "Issues of pricing and community benefit have been well-publicized but little has been offered to measure the broad scope of value." Cleverly is a co-author of the afore-mentioned publication.
SRMC's new MRI addition, along with the cooling tower for energy efficiency were no doubt elements that helped it make the list from the independent analysis of Cleverly and Associates. Bean said moving forward means more of the same for SRMC.
"We want to continue to improve on all those four things..." Bean said. "It tells us that we're on the right track, it doesn't mean that we are done, it just tells us we're following the right path, we just have to keep heading down that path."
