Celebrations for the Wellington High School Class of 2008 have been announced by the school district.
Three major programs will be held to honor those who are graduating this year — the Baccalaurete, Class Night, and of course, graduation ceremonies.
Baccalaurete — a celebration of the senior class with roots in the religion — will be held at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 4 at the WHS Auditorium.
Pastor Zane Brooks will be giving the spiritual message to those who attend. Seniors will have the opportunity to share in prayer and testimony while hearing musical selections, both vocal and instrumental, made by the senior class.
Announcements of scholarships and honors will be made during the Class Night celebration, to be held at 7 p.m., Thursday, May 15 at the WHS gymnasium.
The event is open to the public. That day will also be the last for the 110 students who are graduating, according to WHS Principal Dale Liston.
The culmination of the Class of 2008 grade school careers will be celebrated during Graduation Commencement at 2 p.m., Sunday, May 18 at Seller’s Field. Liston says the ceremony has always been held outside and pending nice weather, it will continue as a tradition.
If it should it rain on the seniors’ parade, graduation ceremonies will be held at the same time in the school gymnasium. Six tickets will be given to each student and other guests will be let in, if there is space available. Seating at Sellers Park is unlimited and Liston encourages the public to come participate in the ceremony.
While a class valedictorian has yet to be officially named for the ceremony, Liston says it may end up a little different this year.
“We might have a three-way tie,” said Liston. Official annoucement of the valedictorian(s) will be early next month.
