MANHATTAN, Kan. – Seven individuals were honored for their service to Kansas FFA on Thursday evening at the 82nd State Convention on the Kansas State University campus.
The Honorary State FFA Degree is bestowed upon those who have rendered outstanding services to the association. Each recipient truly embodies passion for furthering the mission agricultural education and the FFA.
This year's recipients of the honorary degree were Wally Leander, past president of the Kansas FFA Alumni Association, Hiawatha; Scott Beyer, associate professor of animal science at K-State, Manhattan; Don Boggs, Associate Dean of the K-State College of Agriculture, Manhattan; Rosemary Harris, co-owner of Harris Crop Insurance, Abilene; Kent Kimmons, associate professor of floriculture at K-State, Manhattan; Jill Zimmerman, past Kansas FFA Foundation Director, South Haven; and Dan Stehlik, current president of the Kansas Association of Agricultural Educators (KAAE), Republic County.
Garrett Lister, Kansas FFA President, noted each recipient has a true heart for service and that they are truly appreciated for making a difference in Kansas FFA members' lives.
"Mr. Leander has dedicated many years to growing our Kansas FFA Alumni with the mindset that all FFA members are Forever Blue," Lister said. “Jill (Zimmerman) has made an outstanding selfless contribution of time and effort into building our Kansas FFA Foundation in order to give members’ more opportunities for growth, and Mr. Stehlik has made a sincere impact on the development of agricultural educators as KAAE president as well as empowering members as the advisor of the Republic County FFA chapter. Dr. Beyer has an unwavering dedication to serving FFA members as he coordinates the Poultry Judging CDE every year. Through Dr. Boggs commitment, a lasting relationship between the Kansas FFA Association and K-State College of Agriculture has been built; Mrs. Harris has shown a continuous passion for FFA through supporting her local chapter as well as sponsoring the Sheep Proficiency Award on the state level. Dr. Kimmons continually works with students and has helped FFA members through his coordination of the FFA Floriculture Career Development Event."
