The Wellington City Council met on Tuesday, Aug. 3 and voted on the following ordinances and resolutions.

Issue: An ordinance providing one member of the Memorial Auditorium Board may be from outside the corporate limits of the City of Wellington, but must reside within the boundaries of USD 353.
Vote: 8-0 for Ordinance No. 4062. The council also voted unanimously to appoint Pam Hinman and Connie Bales to the board.
What it means to you: There will be a larger range candidate base to select from when the Memorial Auditorium Board has a future opening.

Issue: An ordinance establishing rates for the use of water furnished by the water, sewer and electric utility of the City of Wellington.
Vote: 6-2 to not approve
What it means to you: The city will not be raising its water rates in the upcoming months, after council members failed to approve an ordinance to do so. City Manager Gus Collins said the rate increase would have made the water portion of the utility fund more sustainable as a separate entity. City officials will now be looking at other options to improve sustainability without raising rates. Council members Larry Shimer and John Brand voted in favor of the ordinance.

Issue: A resolution fixing the time and place and providing notice of a hearing before the governing body of the city of Wellington, at which the owners, their agents, any lienholders of record and any occupants of the buildings named for condemnation may appear and show cause why such building should not be condemned and ordered demolished.
Vote: 8-0 for Resolution No. 5376
What it means to you: A public meeting will be held for the owners of buildings the city is wanting to condemn including property at 804 N. H. That meeting will be held Sept. 21, 2010.

The next Wellington City Council meeting will be held at 6:30 p.m., Tuesday, Aug. 17th at City Hall, 317 S. Washington, in council chambers.
