Bicyclist dies in collision with car

Wellington, Kan. -

    An evening car accident has claimed the life of a bicyclist.
    Shortly after 7 p.m., Wednesday night, an unknown person was struck in the 500 block of E. 16th Street, directly across from the Wellington water tower, according to Wellington Police Chief Tracy Heath.
    A driver, also unknown at presstime, was traveling westbound in a dark green car when he struck the person on the bike, Heath said. He stated he was unsure of the age of the victim.
    Traffic on US 160 has been reduced to two lanes in the area of the accident.
    The investigation into the accident is preliminary at this point as the Wellington Police Department, Kansas Highway Patrol and Sumner County Sheriff’s Department are still on scene.
