A semi truck rollover on the Kansas Turnpike Tuesday afternoon blocked northbound lanes around 4 p.m., near mile marker 18. The driver of the truck was transported from the scene with minor injuries.
The trailer, which twisted onto its passenger side and blocked both lanes of travel, was empty or did not spill any contents onto the Kansas Turnpike.
Over an hour later as the Strickland Road Service crew worked to clear the scene, a pick-up truck rear-ended one of their vehicles, injuring 58 year-old Charlie Strickland.
According to family members, the accident caused the vehicle’s door locks to become disabled and emergency responders used Jaws of Life equipment to remove Strickland from the vehicle.
Strickland was air-lifted from the scene to St. Francis in Wichita, where he remains today.
He did receive a serious neck injury, but no broken bones from the accident. Doctors are now telling family the ligaments in his neck were badly hurt in the accident.
