One woman was killed, and two others wounded after a car crash in Wichita, Sunday night.
Kari Rinehart, 21, of South Haven, was killed after a vehicle hit her vehicle nearly head-on in Wichita, investigators say.
Rinehart was driving in the 6400 block of E. 29th Street, around 10:45 p.m., Sunday night when a vehicle driven by a 36 year-old man was heading east through the intersection of Woodlawn, sideswiped another eastbound vehicle, drove onto the median and into the westbound lanes, striking Rinehart’s car.
Rinehart, the driver of the vehicle, was killed in the accident while her twin sister Kati, the front seat passenger suffered a broken clavicle, Lt. Darras Delamaide said. A backseat passenger also suffered two broken legs, he said. Both are being treated at Wesley Medical Center in Wichita for their injuries.
The three were headed back to the apartment they all lived in when the accident occurred.
The man driving the other vehicle was also hospitalized with unknown injuries. Police records show he was tested to see if he was under the influence at the time of the crash.
Rinehart had served as a student assistant at Cowley County Community College where she was a cross-country runner in 2007-2008.
