An accident in Haysville has resulted in the death of a Sumner County man.
Haysville Police Lt. Robert Crites says an officer was driving in the area of Grand Avenue (71st Street South) and Broadway at around 4:09 p.m., Monday, when he came upon an accident scene at the intersection.
The officer found a Crown Victoria with Sumner County tags had t-boned with a black SUV, Crites said.
Police believe the Crown Victoria traveling northbound turned west in front of the southbound SUV hitting the passenger side causing critical injuries to the male passenger of the Crown Victoria and potentially serious injuries to the female driver of the same vehicle, Crites said.
The couple was taken to Via Christi St. Francis Hospital in Wichita where the male passenger later died of his injuries. The female driver has been released, Crites said.
Family members have confirmed Galen Nuss, 69, of Wellington was the victim of Monday's crash. He died Tuesday evening, they said.
Police are still investigating the cause of the accident and no charges have yet been filed because of the incident.
Crites says rain was pouring down at the time of the accident and that as officers worked the scene there were cars passing by without their headlights on.
“If the weather is such that they need their windshield wipers then the law says they have to have their headlights on also.” said Crites.
Services are pending for Nuss and will be announced at a later date, family members said, Wednesday.
