The Wellington Police Department is investigating the death of an 11 year-old girl.
Det. John Defore says officers were called to the 200 block of E. Mill at around 10 a.m., Monday morning after an 11 year-old girl was found unresponsive and not breathing or “Code Blue” in a home.
The girl, later identified by family as Andrea Corley of Wellington, died later at Sumner Regional Medical Center, Defore said.
The detective says the cause of death is unknown at this point, but an autopsy has been performed and toxicology will be available in the upcoming weeks. It could be up to two months before a cause of death is determined, he said.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 17th at the First Christian Church in Wellington. Burial will be in the Sumner Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Wellington. Visitation will be held on Friday from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m., at the Hawks-Shelley Funeral Home & Crematory in Wellington with the family meeting friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
A memorial has been established with the Wellington Humane Society. Contributions can be left with the funeral home.
She attended school at Washington Elementary in Wellington. Andrea received the student of the year award in 2009. She also received the Duke’s award for excellence in reading, she loved school. Andrea enjoyed singing, dancing and cheer leading. Andrea loved animals of all kinds and had desires to be a veterinarian. She enjoyed texting and being on facebook with her friends.
