A Mulvane couple has been arrested in connection with sex crimes involving children.
John Wayne Carr, 31, and Stephanie Carr, 28, have been arrested on multiple counts involving sex crimes against children. Capt. Mike Yoder of the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department confirmed the two were booked into the County Jail Monday night.
John Wayne Carr was arrested on two counts of sexual exploitation of a child using film, magazine or printed material, two counts of aggravated criminal sodomy, aggravated indecent liberties, and six counts of sexual exploitation of a child under 18 years of age. His bond is $100,000.
His wife, Stephanie Carr was arrested on one count of aggravated indecent liberties with a child. Her bond is $75,000.
Lt. Jeff Weible of the Exploited and Missing Child Unit of Wichita and Sedgwick County (EMCU) said the Kansas Internet Crimes Against Children Taskforce (ICACT) received a cybertip involving the couple. After an investigation by EMCU and ICACT, a warrant was issued for the arrest of the Carrs.
Weible was unable to comment on where the tip came from or how long law enforcement has had it, as it is part of the on-going investigation.
Cybertips generally go to the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children and are then filtered down to where local taskforces like ICACT can investigate, Weible said. From there, an investigator will do all the background checking to figure out if there has been a crime committed and to apply for search warrants if necessary, he said.
The investigation is still on-going with EMCU, ICACT, the Mulvane Police Department and the Sumner County Sheriff’s Department. Formal charges against the couple have been filed with the Sumner County District Attorney’s office.
