Two men were jailed for drug offenses this weekend, both connected to methamphetamine use.
A citizen called in a suspicious character in the 600 block of S. Hoover saying he suspected someone was stealing anhydrous ammonia from his property, Sumner County Sheriff’s Department Capt. Mike Yoder said.
Anhydrous ammonia is a key ingredient in making methamphetamine.
Deputies responded and located the suspect in a vehicle matching the description given by the citizen, Sumner County Sheriff Gerald Gilkey said. Based on the investigation performed at the scene, the suspect was found to be in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
The vehicle was then sealed and a search warrant executed. Inside the vehicle, Gilkey said deputies found a mobile meth lab.
Ronny Graham, 43, of Ponca City, Okla., was taken into custody and charged with manufacture of methamphetamine, possession of paraphernalia with intent to manufacture, possession of precursor material with intent to manufacture, attempted theft, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
Gilkey said the arrest might not have been made if not for the tip given to law enforcement.
“I just want to thank our citizens...it is because of them making calls to 911 in a timely manner and the fact that they observed things very well that we were able to put together a strong case, so [they were] just very helpful,” said Gilkey.
Another traffic stop yielded more than four grams of methamphetamine in the 1200 block of US 81. After being stopped by deputies, Yoder said, the driver was found to be in possession of the drugs in his right pocket.
Andrew L. Blair, 24, was arrested for driving while suspended, possession of drug paraphernalia, possession of certain stimulants, left of center, and following too closely.
A passenger in the vehicle, Billy Clark, 19, of Anthony was also arrested on Harper County warrants.
