A Georgia man was arrested on suspicion of rape and sexual battery early Sunday morning in Hays.
The Hays Daily News reported that James C. Bryant of Carrollton, Ga., is a student at Dodge City Community College. However, that could not be independently confirmed Wednesday.
Hays Police Lt. Don Scheibler said Bryant and the victim were dancing at Chuck's Place, a Hays bar, when Bryant allegedly groped the victim, placed his hand in her pants and sexually assaulted her. The victim then left the dance floor and contacted the Hays Police Department.
Bryant was arrested at 12:54 a.m. Sunday a few blocks from the bar. The Hays Police Department is not releasing the victim's name.
Ellis County Attorney Tom Drees said he launched an investigation based on the victim's allegations, but Bryant hasn't been charged yet.
Drees said Bryant is being held on a 48-hour arrest affidavit at the Ellis County Detention Center.
Magistrate Judge Lois B. Werner conducted a probable cause hearing earlier this week and set Bryant's bond at $100,000. Bryant has requested a court-appointed attorney, but one hasn't been named yet.
Drees has until Monday to decide whether he will file charges against Bryant.
