December 26, that's the day Kansas Star Casino officials are targeting to have the temporary, Arena Casino open for business, but they are excited at the possibility that it could be opened earlier.

"Possibly, depending on how our regulatory testing days go," said Carrie Tedore, Corporate Director of Public Relations with Peninsula Gaming.  In the next phase of the project, the temporary casino will look drastically different so it can be used for concerts, rodeos, shows, and equestrian events. But right now, the building is lined up and lighted with 1,311 slot machines and 32 gaming tables.

"All of our games are the exact same games, that if you walked into a casino in Las Vegas, you would find," said Mike Dickson, Director of Casino Operations at the Kansas Star Casino. "...We have all the latest and greatest here, that you would see there." Dickson said it's still hard for him to believe that just a couple of weeks ago, the floor was still just dirt.

"It's hectic, it's a whirlwind," he added. "I keep having to remind myself that this is a temporary casino because it's as nice as some of the permanent casinos I've seen."

As the opening of the Kansas Star Casino approaches, stay with The Wellington Daily News. We will have stories on the food, the art and the employees at the new Sumner County attraction.
