Belle Plaine, Kan. -

The Sumner County Sheriff’s Department is investigating a mysterious death reported in the county.
The body of a woman was found floating in a pond northeast of Belle Plaine Monday by a property owner.
Sumner County Sheriff Gerald Gilkey said the woman’s identity cannot be released until positive identification is made through autopsy results.
Gilkey said there was a report of a missing woman in her 40’s from the same area of the county, and it is likely the two cases are related.
The person was found to be missing by her family early in the week but not reported to law enforcement until Saturday, Gilkey said.
The body was found on the afternoon of Memorial Day.
Gilkey said no other details could be released in the case at this time, but said the death has been classified as mysterious at this point.
