The search is over for a new leader at the Wellington Recreation Commission (WRC), and they didn’t have to look very far.
Cody White has been named the new WRC Superintendent, white has been with the WRC since 2007.
"I started here as the Sports Director, the previous Superintendent, William Weber, hired me," White said. "I dealt with the sports, ran tournaments, organized leagues and made a lot of friendships." White is a native of Caldwell, Kan. and went to college in Oklahoma and then Wichita State University.
"I got my degree in the Sports Administration field," White said. "We've lived up here since 2004..." White said he is excited about his new opportunity.
"Our main objective is youth and the wellness of Wellington," White said. Another goal is to get everything under one roof. "That's been an ongoing process for a number of years." He said the expanding the WRC’s operation won’t happen overnight.
"We are looking at expansion, I'd say we're in the early stages of it still,” he added. “It's an ongoing process." The WRC has several popular events for each age group in the community, like the Red Line, Red Edge, and dances for local teens.
"We average anywhere from 130 to 150 kids per event," White noted. The WRC is also looking into adding some new fitness options as well. White said he is willing to talk to anyone who has thoughts or concerns.
"Hopefully everybody knows me enough by now that they can come to me and we can work out any problems,” White said. “My door is always open."
