The first day of school has arrived for 2010-2011.
Schools across USD 353 in Wellington were filled with eager and the not so eager to be back in the classroom.
Principal Kelly Adams says the 248 students will be getting back into the normal flow of school at Eisenhower Elementary.
“We’ll be going over the routines, rules, things like that,” Adams said. “Nothing really out of the ordinary.”
At the middle school, Principal Jerry Hodson said things are going very well to start the year off.
“A little bit wet, but that’s okay,” Hodson said. “Today we just kind of run our normal schedule, we’ll meet with the kids tomorrow ... and go over our expectations, that kind of stuff.”
Principals aren’t the only ones worried about students today as parents were in droves to say goodbye to their children on their first day of class.
Brandy Jones is sending her daughter, Aja Smith, to first grade at Lincoln Elementary School this year. The first grader isn’t too happy about her first day.
“She sprained her ankle Saturday and so she’s embarrassed to be here on crutches,” Jones said laughing.
Another Lincoln parent had mixed feelings about the start of the school season.
“I’m feeling a little uneasy,” said Heather Pingry, who is sending her kindergartender Aaron, to public school for the first time. “He’s my baby, my first.”
Despite her doubts, she knows her son is ready to tackle the challenges of education.
“He’s ready to go, definitely. He’s a smart kid,” said Pingry.
For his part, Aaron promised his mother, not only to be good today but everyday day and grade of school.
“I’ll be good in every school and every grade,” Aaron said.
