A musical event will be held in memory of four people killed on the Kansas Turnpike in late February.
Driver Michael Minor, 39, of Sedgwick and passengers Lindsey Slain, 23, Chad Kingsley, 27, and Johnette Grimes, 22, all of Wichita were killed at around 9 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 24 after Minor attempted to make a U-turn between the concrete barriers of the Kansas Turnpike two miles south of the South Haven exit.
Event organizer Meko Mihalakis, who has known the single survivor from the crash since middle school, says despite the short time frame, artists were more than willing to give their part.
“Everyone’s been super sweet,” he said.
Kansas bands will jam out the day, Sunday starting at noon at Rock Island Live, 101 N. Rock Island Street in Wichita and play until closing time to help raise money to benefit the victim’s children.

The bands: Every genre of rock will be present at the concert including local artists: Troy Hutson, Brent Eby, Ryan Windham, Jamie Quick Trio, Dead Communter, Mr. Brew, Double-Crossed hipsters, Japanese Game Show, The Lufos and Flat Land Dub Club.

Why you should go: All money collected from the event will go to a trust fund to benefit the children whose parents died in the wreck. The event is a suggested $5 donation, though more will be accepted and passed on.
In addition to giving for a good cause, Let’s Be Frank, a gourmet hot dog vendor, will be donating all money made at the more than 12-hour event to the children’s benefit, Mihalkis said.
