The quest for the 2009 Wheat Fest Medallion is officially over.
Delma Wood and Mary Green of Wellington, a mother and daughter combo, have found the medallion.
The medallion was found at the end of 18th St. in Crestview Heights just off of Crestridge. The medallion was located in a pickle wrapper by a rock and next to a power box, per the daily clues given out by Diana Page of Edward Jones.
Green said of the medallion find, "As early as yesterday we were also looking in Woods Park and Rock Island before we found it."
Page felt the medallion hunt was coming to an end. However, she knew no one had been close to it as early as Tuesday. Page drove by the location, in someone else's car to stay in disguise, and didn't notice any upturned rocks or people walking around.
"We didn't know if it would be the 8th or the 9th clue. When you read the 9th clue it just flat tells you where to go. We fully expected it today and weren't sure about yesterday after the 8th clue."
Page said the tandem have always hunted for the medallion. "They have both been some of the most faithful hunters since I have started this thing," she said. Wood and her sister actually won the hunt in 2004. Green helped the two and gave them advice on the last day. An hour later they showed up at her office with the medallion, Green said.
This year, Green and Wood had help of their own. A coworker of Green's gave them both advice. They plan to split the money with the coworker.
The prize for the medallion is $600 because the two had hunting licenses that came with the purchase of a Wheat Fest button. They will be presented with the reward on Friday.
The medallion hunt was sponsored by Steve and Diana Page of Wellington and Sumner Communications.
